I agree both with you Paul and with the comment left by Rhea. On the one hand, I really like LinkedIn and am taking a whole new interest since finishing your book, Secrets of Social Media Marketing. On the other hand, Rhea is right! You really can't make a move anymore without everyone knowing about it. That is not to say that I have anything to hide, but it is important to choose ones words wisely when dealing in social media. The world has gotten a lot smaller.

Yep, I was one of those people who signed up a long time ago and finally succumbed after receiving dozens of requests to connect. I finally looked into it and now I am an evangelist for LinkedIn. The only thing is, it gets a little weird when your own boss and all of your colleagues are on there. One can't make a move anymore without the world knowing.

Great article. I've used LinkedIn since 2003. This article touches on what I like most about LinkedIn. I've found it the most valuable tool to connect with people inside companies to find out what what it's like working there and to discover unpublished opportunities. In this market, most published opportunities already have a short list of candidates. As well, I think recruiters and hiring managers are too overwhelmed with resumes to spend that much time searching profiles. LinkedIn has tools for job seekers looking to get ahead of the crowd...

Linked In is an amazing resource for those of us in transition. I've respectfully utilized my connections for networking and have been graciously treated by almost everyone. It may not be sexy, but it works.
