Dear Paul,
My condolences also, I heard about your father by reputation , as my own family { great grandfather generation c 1880-1900!} spent a considerable time in China as scholars and missionaries. As I am currently reading Seagraves Soong Dynasty- I wanted to read your fathers interpretation of the facts. The monograph, Falsifying China’s History: The Case of Sterling Seagrave’s The Soong Dynasty ( Hoover Institution, Stanford University, 1986) appears out of print currently - do you have access or a source of an e-version?

Dear Paul: I was sorry to hear of your father's death. He was my professor of Chinese history at Duke University during the mid-1960's. I still recall certain stories he presented in his lectures, and the many insights into the Chinese culture which gave me a wonderful background in Chinese history. After granduating from Duke, I eventually studied Mandarin at the Defense Language Institute at Monterey; and later as a corporate attorney, was involved in several transactions in China, traveling many times to Beijing, Nanjing, and Shanghai. Recently, in reading the new biography of Madame Chiang Kai Shek, I was reminded of Dr. Gillin (who is referenced in the bibliography) and his excellent teaching. I never had expected to see mainland China which, until recently, was not open to visits from Westerners. But your father's teachings prepared me quite well. For that, I am most grateful.

With kind regards, Bill Bivins

"It’s very simple folks…
Twitter is a Mac and Facebook a PC.
It gets the job done without the bloat, hassle or hype."

ha ha ha. "without the hype"? twitter is ALL hype.

twitter is merely the facebook status and nothing more. it's almost like twitter is the outdated technology except for the fact that it is newer. the next step in twitter's evolution would make it more complete, like facebook.

facebook works if you use it all day or once a month. twitter doesn't work unless you're using it all the time.

OK, found lots of info on how great twitter is, what it can do for you...I guess what I want is the mechanics, draw me a picture, really, do a diagram and show the relationships, show the flow of a typical tweeter, connect the dots. Maybe I'll get it then?
